ICC admonishes Hill for his spot-fixing comments
The International Cricket Council has reprimanded the New Zealand umpire, Tony Hill for speaking about the spot-fixing incident to a radio station on Thursday. Hill had said that he thought that the no-balls that the Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir had bowled
were deliberately done in order to intimidate the batsman.

Hill and Billy Bowden were the two umpires who oversaw the Lord’s Test between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and had called the no-balls. These no-balls bowled by the Pakistani duo of Amir and Mohammad Asif form the core of the spot-fixing allegations involving three
of the Pakistani players.

Hill had spoken to the New Zealand newspaper Dominion Post that he had thought that the huge no-balls that the Pakistani bowlers had delivered in the game against England were a part of a plan to intimidate the batsmen. However, he had also added that he did
not think at that time that it was a part of a more complex spot-fixing plan.

Hill also added that it was not only him but also his partner, Billy Bowden who had thought on the same lines. Bowden is from New Zealand as well, and had called one of the three no-balls central to the controversy.

match till the investigations were fully completed.

Hill is one of the very few umpires who has never played first class cricket before becoming an international umpire. However, he has been competitive enough to be appointed in the ICC's international panel in 1998 then to the elite panel in 2009.
