ICC announce groups for the 2012 U-19 World Cup tournament – Cricket News Update
The International Cricket Council, on Thursday, announced the group formation for the preliminary stage of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012, to be staged in Australia in August next year.
A total of 16 teams will participate in the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, which will be the ninth edition of the biennial tournament. The 10 nations with ICC Full Membership automatically qualify for the tournament while the remaining six teams will qualify
for the competition through the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
The teams that qualified for the ICC flagship tournament through qualifiers include, Scotland, Afghanistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002 and Namibia.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 said that the U-19 World Cup is an important tournament as it has provides a platform to the young cricketers to make their way into elite cricket.
"The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup is a very important tournament for us and I want to congratulate those six teams who have qualified to take part in Queensland next year," said Lorgat.
"This tournament has proved to be an important stepping stone for elite young cricketers aspiring to play international cricket. It's an opportunity for them to develop and test their skills in a high-pressure situation against the world's best at this level,"
the ICC CEO added further.
All the 16 teams have been divided into four groups for the preliminary stage of the biennial competitions. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been drawn into separate groups while the Ashes rivals, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and  England have been placed in the same Group
A.
The host and defending champions, Australia will head Group A which also includes Ireland and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 besides England.

Scotland, after having won eight of its nine qualifier matches, will be the leading Associate sides in the 16-team tournament, scheduled to get underway in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, on August 11, 2012.
The 2008 U-19 World Cup winner, India, has been drawn in Group C, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Group D includes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964.
Next year’s tournament will be the ninth edition of the biennial competition. Australia is leading the run with three titles, Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 have only one title to their name.
