ICC cautions Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir for anti-ICC comments
The International Cricket Council has cautioned the Pakistani duo of opening batsman Salman Butt and fast bowler Mohammad Amir to not make anti-ICC comments in their interactions with the media.
The ICC had upheld the suspensions that had been meted out to the trio of Butt, Amir and Mohammad Asif following which the pair of Butt and Amir had criticised the ICC for their decisions. The trio were suspended
by the ICC over allegations of spot-fixing in the Lord’s Test match between Pakistan and England.
Amir's lawyer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Karim acknowledged that the ICC was right in cautioning the players but defended his client saying that the reaction was a natural one. He also added that the decision to uphold the suspension
will not affect the final hearing that will take place later.
Despite Karim’s statement that the ICC had been right in upholding the decision, Amir had said that it looked like the ICC’s decision had been made even before the hearing started. Butt, on the other hand,
accused the ICC of cornering http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
According to Butt, "They heard us, but it was as if 'say whatever you want to say, we have come with a decision'. Their decision was not based on a single piece of evidence against us. We requested from them
the next date of the hearing, but they didn't give us."
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board has distanced itself from the comments. In fact, the PCB has cut the trio off their contracts with the board saying that the contract was allocated to only those players
who could play for the team. With the ICC having suspended the trio, they will be able to play only if the suspensions are overturned by an independent tribunal.
This independent tribunal will now decide whether or not the players were guilty.
