ICC clears Salman Butt to work as analyst on TV show – ICC World Cup 2011
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt who is facing a 10 year ban by International Cricket Council (ICC) has been cleared to work as an analyst for a local television channel in Pakistan during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Previously, ICC Chief Executive
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 had showed concerns about Butt’s role as a cricket pundit during the most prestigious tournament of the world of cricket.
Salman along with Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif was banned by a three men ICC tribunal headed by Michael Beloff QC after his involvement in the spot fixing imbroglio. However the tribunal head did not have any problems in Butt expressing his views on
television. "My lawyer (Yasin Patel) has told me that the ICC tribunal chairman Michael Beloff has no problems with me doing the commentary," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 said.
Butt is one of those few Pakistani cricketers who have a very impressive educational background. He came through the ranks of junior cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. He captained Pakistan Under-17s in the Asia Cup held in 2000 and then also led Pakistan Under-19s in
the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2002 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
He made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in 2003 and since then he was in and out of the team till 2009 when he cemented his place in the national team after some consistent performances in all the formats of the game. He was later made captain in Test
cricket after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 announced a surprising retirement during the controversial tour of England in 2010.
However his involvement in the spot-fixing controversy has effectively ended a career which could have been a bright one for Pakistan. Butt, faced a huge setback earlier this month when he was sacked by his employer National Bank of Pakistan as he was no
longer allowed to play any kind of cricket.
Former Test captain and left handed opening batsman would cover all the matches that include Pakistan and will also share his opinion during the knock out stage of the tournament. Butt added that, "besides giving comments on Pakistan's matches, I will also
do the knock-out matches until the final. It is wonderful to share my opinion on television and I am happy that if I am not able to play I am working as a pundit."
