ICC confirms no official complaint against umpire Steve Davis
International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that it has not received any official complaint against the Australian umpire Steve Davis by Cricket South Africa (CSA), alleging that he was drunk on the eve of the second Test
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Durban.
ICC’s head of media and communication, Colin Gibson speaking on the matter said, “No allegations have been made... The CSA hasn't told the ICC anything. It's all nonsense.”
Gibson’s statements were confirmed by Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 have not yet filed any formal complaint against Davis.
According to media reports, the Proteas alleged that they had seen Davis in a particular bar on various occasions during the second test at Durban whereas he was also spotted “drunk” in Sandton hotel, where the teams had stayed
during the first Test at the Centurion.
These startling revelations about the Australian umpire were published in a South African local newspaper “Beeld”. The daily, choosing not to reveal the identity of the players, wrote that they criticised the umpire’s drinking
practices and doubted his judgement in the second Test because the hosts were a victim of some bad decisions.
Davis was guilty of judging South African batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 leg before wicket (lbw) in the second innings of the Durban Test. Later on, video replays also showed that the ball would have missed the stumps.
This crucial wicket came at a time when De Villiers looked well set in the middle having played 76 balls and spending enough time on the wicket. The umpire’s decision perhaps cost South Africa the match as the hosts lost by 87
runs.
The match was a victim of some poor umpiring by both the umpires; Steve Davis and Asad Rauf, who made some controversial decisions. The Australian again made a bad call by adjudging South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher lbw on
a delivery by Indian pacer Zaheer Khan, which would have missed the off stump.
‘Beeld’ reported the hosts were considering filing a formal protest to the ICC against Davis for umpiring under the influence of alcohol.
