ICC could approach governments for betting regularisation
The International Cricket Council chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 has said that he is keen for the countries playing cricket to regularise betting in order to ensure a cleaner sport. Lorgat also said that
he would like to discuss with the governments the feasibility of verifying the various agents who work in tandem with the cricketers and look after the players’ sponsorships.

Betting in cricket is illegal in many countries including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and that has led to an influx of a lot of underworld betting and illicit money in the game.

Lorgat said that the ICC could not afford to be complacent at this juncture and will need to come up with stringent steps to ensure that the incidents of match-fixing and spot-fixing are not reported. According
to the ICC CEO, the Chief Executives’ Committee had recommended to the ICC to look into the anti-corruption laws in the sport and modify them to not allow any guilty to get away. The CEC consists of the cricket leaders from all the ten Test playing nations
in the world.

Lorgat also said that the current match-fixing controversy involving the Pakistani cricketers should serve as a warning, and if need be, the ICC will not hesitate in employing the governments of countries
to check the corruption in the sport of cricket.

Lorgat also said, “It is not enough that the ICC is regarded by other sporting organizations as a leader in the battle against corruption in sport. We must continue to assess and, where necessary, improve
our processes.”

Recently, three Pakistani cricketers, Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were allegedly involved in match-fixing. The three Pakistani cricketers were provisionally suspended by the ICC, but have
now submitted their response to the ICC and pleaded not guilty to the same. The ICC will now appoint an independent panel and decide on their fate.
