ICC has no immediate plans of lifting Mohammad Amir’s ban, says Zaka Ashraf – Cricket News Update
Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) has not made any indications towards lifting young fast bowler Mohammad Amir's ban.
The talented youngster was found guilty of bowling deliberate no-balls during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993, were later banned and jailed in England.
The left-arm fast bowler has already served two of the five years of his ban but many former cricketers from all around the world have been calling for a lenient approach towards Amir because of his young age.
PCB is assisting Amir’s rehabilitation but the Chairman expressed that ICC has not made any decision to lift Amir’s ban but the PCB will welcome such a move by the game’s governing body.
“There have been no such signals from the ICC. The ICC did discuss the importance of rehabilitation so he is aware of the mistakes he has made. If the ICC does make a decision, the PCB will consider it,” said Ashraf.
While talking about the wicketkeeper/batsman Kamran Akmal’s potential comeback in the national team, the Chairman made it clear that he will have to be cleared by the integrity committee first.
He added, “Kamran Akmal will receive a hearing in which he can present his case and it will be considered.”
No international team has visited Pakistan since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009, forcing the Green Shirts to play their home matches away from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Since taking the PCB leadership, Ashraf has been working extremely hard for the
revival of international sport in the country.
The Chairman had a productive meeting with ICC officials in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malaysia-c2949 and hopes for a positive result in future.
“I held a good meeting with the ICC. The ICC Chief Executive attended and Asian Cricket Council Chairman, there were plenty of discussion but at the moment. It was a good meeting,” Ashraf revealed.
PCB is likely to announce the preliminary squad of 30 players for the ICC World T20 2012 next week.
