Gavaskar knew that sooner rather than later the cap would come his way. The stylish right-handed was overwhelmed after receiving the cap and said, “It is a huge honour because it is the peers in the game who decide who is going to be inducted into the ICC
Cricket Hall of Fame. This means that you are in select company and, therefore, it becomes all the more special. To be an original inductee is an even bigger honour.”
India’s best ever all-round cricketer, Kapil, was the one who handed the ICC Hall of Fame cap to Gavaskar in a function held at Dubai. Being inducted to the Hall of Fame by one of the best in the business was a matter of pride for Gavaskar.
Kapil was the captain of the Indian team that lifted the ICC World Cup for the first time in 1983 at the Lord’s cricket ground, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. During that time Gavaskar was an integral part of the team and shared a cordial relationship with his skipper.
Remembering the great time he had with Kapil, Gavaskar said, “Kapil is somebody who I consider as the greatest Indian cricketer and to receive this cap from him is a real big plus, a real big honour. Kapil and I have had some wonderful times playing in the
Indian team. Being part of the World Cup winning squad is a memory that will always stay with me.”
The 62-year-old Gavaskar, who started his cricketing career representing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 in Indian domestic competition, is arguably one of the best opening batsmen that Indian cricket has produced. He was the first batsman to cross the 10, 000 run mark in Test cricket.
