ICC keeping a close eye on the Pakistan Team
The Anti-corruption Unit of International Cricket Council is keeping a close eye on the Pakistan squad, which is busy playing One-Day Internationals in Dubai against the South Africans.
The Anti-Corruption Unit is particularly keeping a track of the phone calls the players make and receive; this has literally pushed the players to keep contact with their family only in order to avoid any problems.
Team coach Intikhab Alam, however, denied reports of players’ phone calls being tapped. He made it clear that the players have been clearly instructed not to talk to anyone who might be a potential bookie or an associate of a bookie.
Before the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, the players were briefed by the representatives of the Anti-Corruption Unit on how to avoid bookmakers. Later, all the players of the squad were made to sign a code of conduct by the Pakistan
Cricket Board.
The Pakistan players are barred from using laptops and cell phones on match days, but these restrictions do not apply when the players are in their hotel rooms or outside the stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board is leaving no room
for allegations on its players and this is why they have decided to root out the dark patch of match-fixing. The Pakistani management has shunned all accusations that these scrutiny efforts are Pakistan specific, saying that these rules are for all the international
teams.
Pakistan’s recent match-fixing fiasco began when a British tabloid “News of the World” made startling revelations about the involvement of certain Pakistani players in spot-fixing during the then ongoing series in England. This
news hit the cricket world like a storm and Pakistan cricket, in particular, was taken aback by these sudden allegations.
The three main players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Asif - were accused of taking money and bowling two deliberate no balls as per their settlement with a sports agent/bookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
The Pakistan Cricket Board immediately took action by stopping the players from taking part in the series and giving the investigators full access to the players.
Later, the International Cricket Council jumped in and enforced an indefinite ban on the players from all forms of cricket, both, domestic as well as international. The tainted players made an appeal against this ban, which was
later rejected after a hearing was conducted on 30th and 31st of October.
The rejection of their appeals was a big blow to the players’ chances of making a comeback, thus, making their cricket future uncertain. The players now will face a full hearing, which will decide their fate. All evidence against
the players will be presented in this hearing and the players will have the right to defend themselves. If the evidence is found to be sufficient and solid enough, the players will face a life ban from all forms of cricket, which will end their cricket career
with immediate effect.
This spot-fixing debacle has caused great embarrassment to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket and this is why Pakistan Cricket Board is leaving no stone unturned to avoid such a fiasco from ever happening again.
