ICC may Punish Ricky Ponting – James Sutherland
James Sutherland, the chief executive of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, has accepted the fact that amid his unfair rude behaviour with the umpires, Ricky Ponting could be punished by the ICC.
While the day two of the fourth Test match of Ashes series began, the spectators observed England successfully batting themselves into a position which brought them a clear dominance over the rivals. However, amid the scene created by the Australian skipper
Ricky Ponting, most of the talks dwelled upon his altercation with the officials on the ground.
Ponting had referred a decision against Kevin Pietersen, as Brad Haddin, the wicketkeeper of the team had sensed an edge. However, when the third umpire sustained the decision given by Aleem Dar, it left the host captain furious.
He went straight to both of the umpires, Dar and Tony Hill and while jabbing his finger, started arguing with them furiously.
While approached before the end of the day’s play to have his views regarding the incident, Sutherland said, “There’s an ICC code of conduct there if it’s applicable to be dealt with.”
The chief executive CA regarded the matter as a concern of ICC while saying that they had been in the middle of the match, but ICC’s code of conduct was there to deal with the issues which needed to be escalated to the next level.
However, instead of giving his own view point over the issue and pondering upon what should be done about it, Southerland insisted upon waiting for the decision from those which had been directly involved into it.
“I was 200 meters away, so I’ll reserve judgment. There are two umpires out there, they’ll no doubt make their own calls and decisions” added Sutherland.
Presenting his excuse to make a judgment, he stated that he was not sure about what was exactly said, and therefore, instead of him, the people out there at the time the incident took place were in a better position to make the decision.
