ICC permits minnows to play World Cup 2015 – Cricket News Update
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally decided to allow the associate nations to play the 2015 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, on the third day of its annual meeting at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919.
The next edition of the 50-over showpiece tournament will also contain 14 teams, including the four non-test playing nations, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748, along with 10 full member states.
A recommendation for introducing a new qualifying system for the lesser teams was forwarded to the ICC’s Executive Board at the end of second day of the meeting. As per this proposal, a qualifying round was to be held shortly before the start of the next
edition of World Cup to gauge the eligibility of the four small teams.
However, the Chief Executive Committee did not specify the number of teams in its recommendations.
The Executive Board has approved the proposal today along with confirming that the World Cup 2015 will necessarily contain 14 teams.
An ICC statement told, “The CEC recommended that there should be a qualification process for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 but did not make a recommendation to the ICC Executive Board on the number of teams that should compete in the event to be held in
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.”
In the backdrop of the minnows’ lackluster performances during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011, the ICC announced to restrict the next edition of the tournament to only 10 teams.
The four small teams could not display any impressive and significant performance in the World Cup that was held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. All the matches containing the minnows, were one-sided and bland except one in which Ireland made the biggest
upset of their history by chasing a huge target of 327 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
The ICC thought that the dull and drab games of the minnows were affecting the World Cup viewership and sponsorship.
The decision of ousting the four associate nations drew profuse criticism from all cricketing circles. The deprived teams came up to protest this heinous policy of the council and termed it as unfair and unjust.
Under the severe pressure, the ICC has ultimately changed its decision.
