ICC rejects PCB Request to include Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal in the 2011 World Cup Squad
The International Cricket Council has rejected another appeal made by the Pakistan Cricket Board to clear Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal for selection in the preliminary 30-member squad for the 2011 World Cup.
After this latest rejection from the ICC, it almost seems impossible for the duo to play in the upcoming World Cup, which begins in 72 days.
A source in the PCB said, “Shoaib and Kamran are now certain to miss the World Cup. We have made yet another effort for their inclusion in the squad but to no avail.”
According to details, there are grim hopes for all the players named by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed to make it to the World Cup. Three players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif are already about to be banned from international cricket
because of their involvement in the spot fixing fiasco in England this year.
The involvement of Pakistani players in spot fixing has put the country’s cricket board in a volatile position and it can no longer defend its players in front of the ICC.
“Though I am not in a position to say it publicly, the fact of the matter is that we are not in a position to take on the ICC in these circumstances. Things have gone so tricky that the PCB has no other option but to act on
the ICC guidelines.” A source said.
With the exclusion of Malik and Akmal from the squad, the situation for Pakistan has become even more problematic. Now, five players are under suspicions of spot fixing; and all are key players of the Pakistan outfit. Now, when
these players are no longer cleared for selection the big question is whether http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has any chance of doing well in the 2011 World Cup or not.
The absence of these players is going to dent Pakistan’s strength largely. Malik and Akmal could have been very useful in the batting order, but now Pakistan will have to rely on the seniors such as Younis Khan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 and
Abdul Razzaq to steer the depleted batting line-up.
