http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 should set the standard of salaries for the first-class cricketers – Aamer Sohail – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aamer-Sohail-c41418, has said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should set a standard of salaries for first-class cricketers all around the world so that the financial gap between the international and the domestic cricketers
can be reduced.
First-class cricket is the highest form of cricket after Test cricket but in some countries, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, the domestic cricketers do not get appropriate compensation for playing the four day form of the game.
As the world of cricket is looking to eradicate corruption and match-fixing from the game of cricket, Sohail believes that the cricketers should have a secure financial future and this can only help the governing body of the game to make sure that the sport
is being played in the right manner.
In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-c90628’s opinion, ICC should intervene in this matter and should make sure that cricket board pay appropriate salaries to the domestic cricketers. He thinks that in the modern day cricket, the boards have a high income because of all the sponsorships
and television rights and that money should be spent in the right direction.
The former left-handed opener said, “The standardising of salaries at first class level and international cricket should be a major priority for the ICC. Also the ICC need to dictate the standard salaries of cricketers around the world playing domestic cricket,
rather than leaving this decision to the various cricket boards”.
The structure of domestic cricket in Pakistan is very different from other countries. There is a mixture of regional and departmental teams in the first-class arena of the country and the better players are usually associated with the departments, who pay
them monthly salaries. However, they do not get permanent jobs and this is the reason why Aamer feels that those cricketers face a huge problem when they have to retire from domestic cricket.
“Nowadays in Pakistan, first class cricketers are not offered permanent jobs in departments, instead they receive a contract. It comes back to my point about respecting the system and being able to be strong and say no to the temptations that are out there
for cricketers”, said Aamer.
