ICC to assess the security situation in Pakistan ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 tour - Cricket News Update
The Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 has said that the apex governing body will carry out a proper assessment of the security situation in Pakistan before reaching a conclusion on sending match officials to the country
for the proposed tour of Bangladesh in April this year.
"Safety and security is a serious issue," said Lorgat speaking to media reporters after the Board’s meeting in Dubai on Wednesday. "There are grave responsibilities on any of us who send teams or match officials (to Pakistan) and we need to do a proper assessment
before we come to any conclusion about touring Pakistan," he added further.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Chief Executive said that the revival of international cricket in Pakistan was not part of the agenda of the board meeting on Wednesday, as the PCB itself is engaged in dialogues with other boards.
"The board did not discuss international cricket returning to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 as you all know they are presently engaged with a potential tour from Bangladesh and I think we need to see what unfolds before we get into that sort of discussion," said Lorgat.
Pakistan has not hosted an international cricket match since the terrorist attacks on the touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 team in Lahore in March 2009. The militant attack killed eight people and left seven Sri Lankan players and their assistant coach injured.
Reserve umpire, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brian-Christopher-Broad-c48475 of England were left shell shocked.
Since the incident international cricket has been suspended in the country. Pakistan team has been forced to play its home series at the neutral venues of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033. Presently the Men in Green are playing England in the UAE. Organising
home series on offshore venues is not only causing huge financial losses to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but also the players have been deprived of home advantage.
In the aftermath of the shameful attacks, the country was also deprived of the hosting rights of the ICC World Cup which was initially scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan, Bangladesh, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka. But due to security concerns, matches scheduled to
be played in Pakistan were distributed among the other three countries.
The Chairman of PCB, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 has been striving hard for the revival of international cricket from the first day of his appointment. In this regard, he has written letters to several boards and according to him there is an encouraging response from his
counterparts. Bangladesh is likely to break the jinx by touring the cricket deprived country in April this year for a three-match one day series.
