The International Cricket Council, in association with the leading sports channel, Ten Sports, and Sri Lanka Cricket, will conduct a training course for television umpires.
The manager of ICC Referees and Umpires, Vince http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Bijl, told the media reporters that the training programme is the first of its kind and aims at developing the best match officials of the world.
"This is the first simulated training course we have run and we are delighted with the extension of our training programme aimed at developing the world's best match officials," said der Bijl while talking to the media reporters on Tuesday.
The course will be supervised by prolific http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Arnold-Taufel-c90354, who is also a consistent member of the Emirates ICC Elite Umpires panel. Taufel, who has so far bagged five ICC Umpire of the Year awards, appreciated the initiative and hoped the
international umpires will benefit from it.
"This is a great initiative which will benefit the elite panel umpires and also the international panel umpires from Sri Lanka," Taufel, winner of five ICC Umpire of the Year awards, said.
Giving the details of training course, Taufel said that it will involve training on technical as well as non-technical aspects of umpiring.
"The decision-making module will involve training on run out, stumping, clean catches, bump ball, lbw (DRS), caught (DRS), boundaries and front-foot no-balls,” said Taufel. “While working through the various decision-making elements, there will also be a
focus on effective communication skills," he added further.
The chairman of SLC’s interim committee, Upali Dharmadasa, thanked the ICC and Ten Sports for taking the initiative and organizing such a unique training programme in Sri Lanka. He hoped the local Lankan umpires will benefit from the course.
The simulated TV umpire technology training course is scheduled to be held at Galle, Sri Lanka on August 30.
