The International Cricket Council is set to discuss the future of various aspects of cricket at the Lord’s cricket ground in London. The meeting is set to be scheduled over two days with the Decision Review System and the use of floodlights for Test matches
to be the main topics under consideration.
The highly controversial Decision Review System has split the cricketing community as to whether it ought to be incorporated in all the One Day International matches. Introduced in 2009, the Review came under the spotlight in the recently concluded ICC World
Cup in the subcontinent.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 not out decision. The England batsman was ruled not out when perhaps, it was not the correct decision. The criticism stems from the stipulation that if a batsman is 2.5m down the wicket
then the lbw decision cannot be given. The rule is more due to the lack of adequate technology as opposed to any accurate simulation.
The other concept, if approved, could see Test matches played under floodlights. Though the concept had been around for a long time, its implementation has always been the major hurdle, with the wear and tear of the ball a major issue.
No other ball at the time seems to be able to replace the red leather ball in terms of the way it wears down. The white leather ball, used in ODIs wears down at a much faster rate and a more durable replacement needs to be found.
According to Tony Grieg, England’s former captain in the ‘World Series’ cricket tournament. “That (white) ball created monstrous problems for us, and those problems, to my way of thinking, still exist.”
Greg was referring to the way the red leather ball caused problems under the lights and how those problems would still be just as prevalent. All the recommendations will be put forward in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919 between June 26-30, where the global governing body’s main
board and the ICC Chief Executive’s Committee are set to meet.
