The International Cricket Council (ICC) has completely rubbished the Indian batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar’s formula to rejuvenate the existing structure of the ODI cricket in order to make it more interesting and competitive in face of the rapidly growing
T20 format.
The council high-ups are converged on the point that there is no need of any change in the 50-over version of the game as it is running swiftly, terming the Master Blaster’s formula impracticable at this juncture.
Talking to the Mid Day, an English online daily, the ICC General Manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clive-Hubert-Lloyd-c51327 in May), but we decided not to go with
them. Lots of people have come up with different ideas to revamp the ODI format. So, he's surely not the only on.”
Tendulkar wrote a comprehensive letter to the ICC in May, proposing certain possible changes in the One Day game including the division of 100 overs in four innings of 25-over each and increase in the overs limit for a bowler from ten to twelve. He also
suggested two powerplays for batting side and three for fielding side in each innings.
However, the God of Cricket’s enshrined formula has not drawn any support from the world cricket governing body.
Commenting on the matter, the Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) President, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Dennis-Alexander-Martin-Jenkins-c50767, said, “He (Tendulkar) argues that four alternate innings of 25 overs for each side in an international would be the fairest way of balancing the advantages
gained by the team that win the toss when pitch and weather conditions mean that a match can virtually be decided by the spin of a coin.”
The debate about a possible tug of war between ODI and T20I formats of the game has been a crucial part of every gathering of the world cricketing fraternity in the last couple of years.
Like other cricket experts, Sachin too strongly believes that ODI cricket will fade away soon if it is not revamped now.
The 38-year-old legend has 181 Test and 453 ODIs to his name. He poses to be the world’s top scorer in both these formats.
