  1. i strted at 13, im 14 now and i still luv skating, ive landed my lutz and am working on my axel.

  2. I Started Figure Skating when I was 9, so 11 is fine.

  3. No way!  Start now if you're interested.  There's no reason not to.  If you want to skate just for fun, it's the perfect time to skate.  If you want to try to be more competitive, it's also a decent time to start.  A lot of really, really competitive skaters (like in the Olympics) start at age 4 or 5, but starting at 11, you'd be able to work up to competing (probably at a lower level but nonetheless high).  If you think it sounds fun, do it!!  It IS fun!

  4. I was 10 when I started. If you want to skate go ahead and start! It's certainly not too late to begin to learn to skate!

  5. definitelly not!

if your dedicated, love skating you it's not too late.

    i started at 11 too.

  6. I started at 11 too!!!!  It's not too late. I now have landed all my double jumps, and it's only been 3 years.  Johnny Wier didn't start untill he was 12,and look where he's at now! I think that you should definitley give it try and start skating. Good Luck!

  7. i started at age 5

  8. I started when I was 5 or 6 but I'm 15 now and still loving it! It's never too late to start, it just may be a little more difficult. Make sure to find a coach that you feel comfortable and that won't push you to compete if your not interested.

It's a fantastic sport, have fun!!!!!

  9. i figure skate, i started when i was 11and a halfish and i stopped and started and i am a national champ- i have skated all over the world. If you are dedicated you can do it

  10. 8 Yrs old but I paused for about 2-3 years when I'm around uum 12/ 13... I was learning fs 6... N now I'm gonna continue it again...

  11. No! Of Course its not. I started when i was ten and im twelve now. So if you think you will enjoy it give it ago! GOOD LUCK!

  12. Well if 11 is old, then I must be really old because I'm 18 and I'm going to start ice skating lessons in the summer as soon as I graduate from high school.  I say go for it and have fun, because there is nothing worse than looking back and thinking to yourself if only if only I had just...

  13. no definitley not too late=D i started at 13:D

  14. It's never too late! I started when I was 9, but had to stop at 15. I'm 21 now and I know I'm too old for any high level competitions or anything like that, but I've picked it up again and I've never been happier. Definetly take some lessons. Girls your age start skating all the time. It's pretty normal.

  15. I started at age 6.5, but most of my "skating friends" started at 12.  So, You are deff. not too old, in fact, ur still quite young.

  16. Lucky! I started at almost 12, and am 13 now. I can do doubles consistently, an I-spin, biellman, haircutter (sometimes), cannonball, etc... Its not too late.

  17. It's never too late!  I started at 12 and I'm still skating at 29.  So go ahead, get involved -- you'lll have a blast!  :)

  18. I started when I was almost 15 because of a disease that cause pain in my back (wouldn't be surprised if I got unlucky enough to get Schuermann disease being a female haha). And no, the pain is gone, dissapeared when I stopped growing.

Oh, not to mention I had very bad experiences with coaches because of my age and the fact my parents aren't millionaires (yes, mexican coaches do think that's very important when it comes to preferential coaching) and I started to skate less (sometimes just twice a year) when I got into med school. I've also had dozens of problems with ice skates causing severe pain in my feet which made me lose a lot of time.

And despite it all, I probably skate better than most people in the entire city.

Hopefully your experience with coaches will be more positive because of your age. And no, 11 isn't a bad age to start. Be glad you didn't learn doubles at age 5 with permanent hip damage at age 11.

  19. I started when I was 12 and a half now I'm 14 and I can do lutz's and I'm working on my Axel and Camel-sit.

Skating is awesome, you can start with group lessons which are tons of fun but you don't make progress as fast as with private lessons. There might be some people younger than you in your lessons but since you are older you will make quicker progress and can make your way to private lessons probably by next year.

As you will hear from everyone, you are never to old to start figure skating. Just like any other sport (unless you are like the international champion) there will always be people better and worse than you. There will be 7 year olds doing axels at the rink but there will also be people who can't turn or stop. So try skating, you'll never know if you like it until you try it so do try it. Who knows, you may be a natural.

  20. i was 5 years old but my friend started at 7 or 8 and she still turned out alright

  21. theres no proper age to start. granted many world and olympic champs started at very young ages,.. but anyone can start no matter what age, and still compete.

i started when i was 14 and although i started later than most im so glad i did :) its so much fun! you learn to push yourself, to work for what you want, and while having fun.

one year on from when i started i can now do three types of jump, 2 spins, spirals and various footwork... all things i never would have even dreamed of being able to do before i started lessons.

my advice is to give it a go :) starting out with group lessons can be less stressful than full on private ones (which usually require some basic skating skills..) and you get to meet heeeaps of new people. plus everyone in your group will be at the same level as you, no matter what age, so its less intimidating... also dont worry if you progress faster or slower than some people, everyone learns at their own rate. take time to learn basics (edges are sooo important!) and enjoy the learning process.

if you do decide to take lessons, maybe try skating with friends sometime beforehand. if you havent been before be careful, its ice afterall. if you do fall try to land on your butt or thighs, then get up from all fours. everyone falls, often in strange and embarrassing ways ( i trip over thin air :D )

the main thing is to have fun :)

    good luck and happy skating!

  22. I started skating when I was six.  But I have a friend who is progressing very well (won a gold at her first competition in freestyle 1) and she was ten or eleven (eleven i think) and is now working on her 1 foot spin.  You should go for it.  Eleven is not too young to start.

  23. I used to ice skate and I started when I was six and I quit when I was 11 or 12, but if you are really serious about doing it here are some things you  might want to know

it takes up a lot of time and you can land without a social life (that is why I quit)

You are going to have to become super limber and take a bunch of falls even when just learning you single jumps

All of the different types of spins are hard to learn but once you get them down you have to keep working on them to perfect them

keep in mind there are different forms of ice skating, you have singles, pairs, and dance.

I did singles and dance ( i was about to start looking for a partner for dance when i quit)

i know this is all of the bad stuff about skating but if you are really into it and really want to give it a go, just go for it and buy one of those books ice skating for dummies.

I do not think it is too late if you are really going to put your heart into it.

  24. Hee hee . . . I started skating when I was over double your age in my mid 20's.  I got to compete, perform, and skate moves beyond my wildest dreams.  There are skaters who started skating double and almost triple MY age . . .  skating is A LOT of fun at ANY age!!!!!  So 11 is definitely not too late to start - wink!

    :)

  25. well im 12 now and an intermediate ice skater i started when i was 10 i dont think it's to late for competitions i think you have to be under a certain age. I see old people all the time ice skating

    your never too old

    hope this helped !!!

  26. Ice skating as in figure skating or just skating?

I started at age 3 to just skate I went towards hockey rather than another sport but no 11 is not too late. Look at Habs great Larry Robinson who didn't play hockey until he was 14...

  27. I Started ice skating when i 10.

Some people progress really quickly but then again some people dont.
