  1. soakers are just covers for your blades.

have on ebay they start from 99p

  2. Soakers (also called cozies) are fabric-based skate guards that are to be put on your skate blades after you dry them off. You should keep them on your skates until you put them back on, then you put your guards on to walk.

If you use regular skate guards instead of soakers your blades will start to rust!

    You can get some here:

  3. Soakers should be placed on your blades after you dry them thoroughly.  The soakers will absorb any moisture that is left and prevent the blade from rusting.  Also, when the temperature of your blade changes from freezing cold (obviously) to room temperature some condensation forms so the soaker will also absorb that.

Blades only have a limited number of sharpenings so if the blade rusts a lot and you have to sharpen it often, the blade will not last as long. You will find it very difficult to glide with a blade that has rust on it - so use soakers.

The same applies to walking in hard guards.  If you don't wear your guards when walking off ice, you will need to sharpen your blades more often and they will not last as long.

    Hope this helps!!

  4. Hey! You asked about which bag to get earlier today! Which one did you buy? :) And soakers are just that, soakers. They SOAK (absorb) any water left on the blades in storage so they don't rust! Terry cloth soakers have a lot of fun colors to choose from! If you don't have soakers, then at least take off the guards when you're at home and let the skates dry on their own.

  5. Here's an ebay link to all kinds of soakers.  There are so many different kinds to choose from.

  6. Where I live we call them fluffies, and they're basically soft blade guards used for soaking up the excess moisture on the blade after you have dried them with your towel, especially since when you come out of the rink the blades tend to build up a lot of condensation from the temperature change.

It's usually a good idea to take your skates out of the bag when you get home so they can be in the air and dry out properly so the boots don't smell and the blades won't rust.

Hope this helped! And good luck with your skating!
