  1. Yes, you can go to a community college with a certificate of completion from highschool.  This info came my way via the autism-asperger coordinator of DE who has a HFA son who is going through this now. http://www.delautism.com

  2. I think it depends.  Some states offer an alternative diploma for people with mental retardation- that's the certificate of completion.  There are lots of people with IEPs for reasons that are medical in nature who have no cognitive impairments at all (either they are called Other Health Impaired or Orthopedically Impaired, also you'd have Visually and Hearing impaired students in this category).  Think about it, a kid with spina bifida who uses a wheel chair is probably in special ed for medical assistance and nursing, but she won't need any special education classroom assistance at all.  It wouldn't be fair that they couldn't get a regular diploma, even though they've taken all regular classes.  And even if you do get some special classes, public universities will honor the IEPs accommodations according to the Americans with Disabililities Act (Section 504).  Most have an office for disabled student services.

  3. Yes. A commiunity college then you can transfer to a university.

  4. I have asked a lot of questions about LD and IEP

diplomas and the answers I get is No from

most people. They say a IEP diploma is a

    certificate of completion.

  5. Possibly. If you are in high school, talk to the teacher who runs your IEP meetings about your transition plan, and how the school can help you go to college. Your school may have a person who does nothing but work on post-secondary transitions.

    Good luck!

  6. it depends if the IEP diploma is a Modified Standard Diploma or a Certificate of Completion.

Modified standard diplomas are supposed to have teh same signifigance of a Standard Diploma-and should get you a job or into many colleges.  I would guess it would not be accepted by Ivy League schools, but would be accepted by public state colleges and some mid level colleges.

A certificate of Completion doesn't do any thing for you--many jobs will not hire you--and you will have to fight to get into college---it has been done------you can request a personal interview and plead your case......

This should have been made clear to you when you began High School-but often it is not...

  7. I got a Modified Standard diploma this past may and even with that you have very little chanch of getting into collage so probobly not with an IEP diploma, which im fine with anyway, collage isnt for me.

  8. No.
