IF Marion is the better suiter for the Lakers, then why are they after ARTEST?

Marion is by far the better replacement for Marion. Sure Odom is longer and has a bigger wingspan, but Marion uses every part of his body to make the crucial stop. He isn’t the fastest player on the court, but he puts himself in a good position to stop his defender.

He has about the same rebounding as Odom, but Marion brings consistency in rebounding, scoring, and defending

Marion's experience can help train the younger guys, such as Trevor Ariza, Sasha Vujacic, Luke Walton, or even Coby Karl, to develop into stronger role players.

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE LAKERS ARE GOING AFTER THE TOXICNESS IN ARTEST?

Because Artest will ask for less money than Marion when they become free agents. I believe Marion is asking for $18-$20 million per season, while Artest would probably ask for $10-$12 million per season.

You really like Marion Huh, Me too. He is one of the most underrated players ever, he has so much talent and can play just about every position. I have no idea why the Lakers are not pursuing him more he could be the best thing thats happen to the Lakers in a long time. I think he is just what they need to make them unguardable and champions. But they don't really seem to want him that much, the management seems to want Artest, who knows what they are smokin up in that office but whatever it is should be illegal. If Artest goes to the Lakers it could be the worst thing ever (another Shaq and Kobe minus the Championships and add a lot more fights)

I certainly think with that lineup we would OWN. And i do think Marion would be better, artest would cause too many problems, but we're only after his defense...

EDIT: Change the PG to Jordan Faramar, Fisher is getting too old and cant put up good numbers. If we start Faramar he can mature into a better player.

The Lakers need toughness and defense. Marion is a solid defender but they need someone like Artest who is tough and one of the top defenders in the league. I think Artest will behave alright under Phil Jackson and Kobe. Phil Jackson was able to tame Dennis Rodman, so I don't think Artest should be a problem.

i dont think the heat will give away shawn marion any time soon, especially not for only lamar odom. and yes, shawn marion is the fastest player on the court, have you ever seen this man run?

Because of that Artest will set the tone for the Lakers. Remember Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom were both non factors in the finals. He will make them better on defense because of his defense. He is hardnose player that you could put on any body. Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, I bet he could Guard Chris Paul effectivley. I'm not saying I like it that is just why

Shawn Marion is the better players but would think the Heat would ask to much for Marion. But not so sure Marion would be happy being the third fourth option on the floor. That was one of the reasons he wanted out of Phoenix and he didnt like having to always guard the others teams best player. And he too was described as a toxin in the Suns locker room.

While Artest will bring defense every game and he has a great three point percentage. He and Kobe have great respect for each other and Phil would be happy with his skills and think he would become an even greater player in a team that has a chance to contend for a championship and plus he will look to improve stock for free agency.  Although adding Kenny Thomas contract would suck but he would be a decent replacement for loosing Turiaf. And he hasnt acted out im a really long time and he wouldnt dare pick a fight agaisnt Kobe.

Breathe easy. If Lakers make a blockbuster trade, it WON'T be for Artest. Kenny Thomas is a deal-killer. Ron-Ron is a ball movement stopper on offense. Also, not the defender he was a couple of years ago. I don't think any of the usual suspects (Odom, Marion, Artest) will get traded prior to start of the regular season. Given that Sasha Vujacic has not received any offers thus far, he might have to return to Lakers for qualifying offer ($2.6M). Too bad for "The Machine". I'm curious to see if the team adds FA forward Jorge Garbajosa and last year's 2nd round draft pick Sun Yue after the Olympic Games are over. MLE could be split between the two of them.  Gives the team a few more options at the trade deadline.

after failing against the celtics, they think they need a tough defender so they are looking at artest, i dont agree with this because he has too much of an ego, marion is better because he is more consistant
