  1. The reason that we don't fall of is because God holds us down here.

  2. really? As Issac Newton discovered while sitting under his apple tree...gravity.

  3. Haven't you heard? Newton recanted in his old age, and simply stated, "The Earth sucks!"

  4. Gravity holds us down.

  5. The force of gravity holds us to the Earth.  It is the same force that holds our atmosphere here.  It is also the force we have to overcome to launch a space vehicle.  It is why we fall down.

  6. This is because the Earth isn't sitting in a gravity field all pulling in the same direction in space. If you put a ball on a table, and try to balance a speck of sand on it, you have to put the sand on TOP of the ball, because if you put it on the side of the ball, the sand falls off.

This is because the ball's gravity is not the dominant force around the ball - the Earth's gravity is. Earth's gravity pulls objects towards its center, no matter where you are in space relative to the Earth. There is no "top" of the Earth as there is a top surface of the ball sitting on your table. That's why you don't fall off of it.

Now.... if the Earth were sitting on some colossal table on an enormous planet, then you would fall off because the mega planet's gravity would be the dominant force, and not the Earth's gravity.

  7. gravity holds us down

  8. gravity

  9. How old are you?  Have you not been taught Newton's law of gravity?

  10. Ummmm.......gravity

  11. If you consider the gravity of the situation, Earth is very attractive; attractive on the scale of

Fg=Gm1m2/r^2 where Fg=Force of attraction between two bodies, G=universal gravitational constant or 6.7*10^-11, m1=mass of one of the objects, and m2=mass of the other object.

    See, simple as pi.

  12. I'm sorry.  This question is too difficult for me.  Its so hard.  My brain is hurting. Help!!!

  13. I think that's an awesome question.  Sure, we all know about gravity.  And we know how it works.  But does anyone know what gravity is or WHY it works???  Where does gravity come from?  I don't think anyone has answered that.

  14. Gravity! The Earth (and everything) has a centre of gravity. The larger the object, the larger the centre of gravity. Normally we don't notice, but with something as huge as the Earth, we do, and we get pulled towards it's centre. So wherever you are on the Earth, you are being pulled towards the centre. That's also why the moon orbits the Earth, and the earth orbits the Sun.

  15. THe earth is not round it's an oblate sphereoid

(the equator is farther form the center than the poles)

As i hope you know the earth spins. Any object that spins, it's gravitational pull toward it's center is heightend.

look at the international space station people walk on a curved floor around the center as the station spins the people are pulled toward the center keeping them on the floor not floating in the air.
