  1. Probation for what? No it will not help though.

  2. It probably depends on the misdemeanor, but I would say that your chances are probably limited to positions involving fluency in those languages that you speak.  DEA and FBI are high profile - the FBI will probably require that you get some kind of post grad degree and have a stellar record in a stellar college; I'm pretty sure that DEA prefers guys having some kind of prior law enforcement experience in narcotics.

  3. I would have to say that it might depend on what type of trouble you got into (what was the misdemeanor).  Even though with the hiring freeze and the amount of people trying to get hired by those agencies I'm sure that any little thing will be held against you.

  4. It's not going to make it easy, but it would most likely depend on the charge itself.  It also depends on the position you are applying for, the requirements for a special agent are vastly different than for, lets say, a field office receptionist.

  5. If you are clean and good for a while.  There is no harm in trying.  You will be asked about it and be honest when answering their questions during the background investigation and the interview.  However, 2 or 3 years on probation for just a misdemeanor...it seems to me there is more to your story than you are saying.  If you apply they will find out everything.  A person with a criminal record, no matter how small, shows possible chance for corruption so the hiring chance is hurt a bit.  This of course depends on the severity of the crime and the time between then and you applying for the job.  If it was within the last 5 years, you will not get hired period.

  6. You have chosen some very difficult agencies to get into. Your probation will most likely have to be discharged for a long time before consideration.

The charge itself is what is going to be the deciding factor. If you have a misdemeanor assault charge from 2 years ago, that shows a lack of maturity, and will be hurtful. If you have a misdemeanor drug charge, even worse. I think you would be best off joining the military for 4 years, and then applying for your job of choice. Maybe a municipal agency, or even a federal police officer position.
