IF hair is made of dead skin cells then how can you get dead hair?

they say if hair has heat damage or something similar its dead hair, is that just a term for damaged? if not, how do you kill something thats made of dead cells?

  1. You don't get dead hair due to the fact that hair is already dead. you just get damaged hair. You can't kill whats already dead. of course. haha. good question!

Hair is keratin protein secreted by follicular cells.  Hair is neither living or dead, its just protein.  Heat damage is just a term for damaged hair.  Keratin has a specific shape.  When heated too much, most proteins "denature"; that is, their structure is altered.  Heat damaged hair is just heat denatured keratin.  You can't "kill" hair, but you can kill the cells that make hair.

    Yes it is just a term I think. It can't be dead because it wasn't alive in the first place but it can be damaged by heat like most things can.
