  1. If you don't have your ID yet, you need the pass.  Yes, you just must be in a car seat. It is the law.  They will not even let you on the base if your child in a correct car seat.  Yes, they do look!

  2. California law requires children six and under weighing 60 or 65 pounds and under, must wear seat belts. Don't know about other states. It is the military, so you know to holla at 1st  Sgt. first and find out if you can use that pass for both occassions. You'll mess around and have to beat your face in front of your people on family day. Never seen it happen, but that wouldn't be cool.

  3. Yes, you should have the pass with you.  It tells the gate guards you are authorized to come onto the base.  Your pass should say on it the dates it's valid, and they do the family day/graduation thing all the time.  I will say I had a couple of surprise visitors at my graduation, and they didn't need a pass, they just had to register at the visitor's center, but that was also pre-9/11, so it may be stricter now.  Keep the pass with you, and if you need it, you'll have it, and if not no harm done.  You absolutely MUST have your child in a car seat.  No ifs, ands or buts.  If you need somewhere to store the car seat during the graduation, talk to the guards at the gate or his command ahead of time.  Obviously you won't be leaving it in the taxi during the graduation.  The bleachers are pretty big, though, and you should have plenty of space.  If you're concerned about it because you're flying and carrying the baby in your lap, the airlines don't count your car seat as one of your checked pieces of luggage.  Bring it with you to the gate and ask them to check it there.  They'll have it waiting for you when you get off the plane in South Carolina.  Be aware, too, that with most airlines if the flight's not terribly full, you can usually arrange to have the baby occupy her own seat in the car seat even if you didn't pay for one (subject to seat availability).
