IF s*x education is taught in schools does that mean there will never be another teen pregnancy?

People on here are saying that Pailn is against teaching s*x education in schools and that is exactly why her daughter got pregnant.

So I guess going by that logic once condoms are passed out and s*x education is taught no teenager will ever again become pregnant or get an STD.

Do liberals have so little interaction with their kids that they think that whatever you believe your children will automatically believe in and act the same way.

Any teen has that opportunity! All teens must make that decision! No matter how great a parent the child will make his/her decision whether they want to have s*x or not!

I believe teaching s*x education further exacerbates the problem. It's not the schools job to teach something that is the job of the parent to teach at home. Not to mention studies have show that parents are the number one influence in a child life. Which is why it's best for them to be taught at home by the two people who have the greatest impact on them.

Of course not.  But when you look at the data from industrialized nations where thorough s*x education, including the use of contraceptives is taught, absent all the religious bush-wacking about it, you see that there is a much lower rate of teen pregnancy.  I doubt very much that the mothers in Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, et al., are any different than American mothers in terms of teaching their children about contraception at home.  Schools obviously play a very large role in the issue.

If parents refuse to address s*x at home the schools need to pick up the slack.

s*x ed is uncomfortable talk for any parent, but the facts are that kids are going to experiment, whether we talk to them or not.   It is up to us as parents to teach them how to respect and protect themselves.  

It certainly isn't going to stop teenage pregnancy, some teens do intentionally get pregnant, all we can ask is to cut down on the unplanned.

No. I would think that teaching s*x ed would make teens more likely to have s*x since they get a free condom and are told all about it, thus increasing the chances for STDs and pregnancy.

Alcohol responsibility is taught will we never see another drunken crime?

Schools teach reading, writing, and arithmetic so does that mean all of our kids are getting educated?

The problem with your Conservative logic is you only apply it to what you want to fit your argument. You don't have to be liberal to see your argument flaw here it's just common sense.

You cons will just follow anything the Republican leaders tell you like you're a bunch of sheep. If the Democrats were against s*x ed. and Republicans were for it, you'd be saying the complete opposite.

Of course it will not guarantee that there will be no more teenage pregnancies, and it will not prevent them from contracting VD.  The goal of it is, hopefully, to at least educate students on the potential consequences, that no preventative measure is 100% effective.

Oh come now, that kind of logic is inherently flawed.  Nothing is 100%.  A program to teach kids s*x education wouldn't be either.  But if one teenager in that program actually listens to it and in doing so prevents an unwanted pregnancy, it's worthwhile.  No, not everyone listens to that, and no, not everyone listens to drug use prevention programs either, but I guarantee you would argue in defense of that if just a few kids here and there were prevented from starting on something dangerous.

First, of course teens will get pregnant, but not as many. The numbers will decrease a whole lot.

Second, if you're born into a strict Christian family, don't you think you're going to be a strict Christian. If you say no, you're stupid.

All my religious friends, have super religious parents.

My family never took me to church or temple or anything else, they decided to let me choose. So yeah, I do think that whatever you believe your children will automatically believe in and act the same way in MOST cases.

Our children will still have unplanned pregnancies.....but maybe not as many.

If it helps just one girl and one boy from having s*x I think s*x education in schools would be good.

Maybe we need to stop putting labels on everything and just figure out a way to be good parents......period.

No if anything I think there will be more pregnancies, even if they give free condoms it don't mean they'll use them, But then they will know what to do because they've been shown at school. I say leave it to the parents then they can only blame them for the pregnancies.

Obviously, no plan can eliminate teen pregnancies completely.

However, districts that provide a more comprehensive s*x education program have lower teen pregnancy rates than those that teach abstinence only.

I'm not sure why this is an issue in any event.  Palin's official position as governor was to let the school boards decide school curriculum.  Her opinion about abstinence was just that - her personal opinion.

No one is saying that.Obviously,teenage pregnancy will never be erased,but we can reduce them.Besides,preaching abstinence obviously hasn't worked.

What we need to do is teach kids about birth control,contraception,and abstinence. That was taught to me when I was in high school. We learned about the consequences of getting pregnant when you're a teenager. That's what we need to do. Educate the kids about STDs,contraception,abstinence,and the risks of having s*x when you're not ready

Also,parents need to get involved and talk to their kids about s*x. If they're uncomfortable,they can get help from a pamphlet about how to talk to their children.

It's not a liberal thing.It's a common sense thing.
