  1. I just graduated from my local college and we had to complete surveys on our courses and instructors. On this level, the students are more prone to  tell the truth and not use personal feelings about the instructor as far as the class went.

I did have an instructor that was totally off the mark when it came to the material she taught. She didn't like the new addition of the book for the course and in her rebelling state, she often taught from her book she's had for many years and we couldn't follow along b/c the pages were different, information was left out, and the topics didn't coincide with the book we paid for to take the class.

It doesn't show disrespect or criticism of the instructor, but to the methods of teaching that are being used.

As far as getting the opinion of children that are not at least in high school, it really would be more of a personal attack on the teacher if he/she were hard on particular students and this would be their way of getting back at the teacher.

  2. I think small amounts of constructive criticism can really help children, channeling their thoughts rather than bottling them up can leave their minds more susceptible to knowledge. It also can give you pointers to what needs improving in your lessons. I would though, on the other hand, not let the children get too carried away and have a line in which they cannot cross. After all, children need authority to help them understand they cannot always get their own way and need to learn what is acceptable and what is rude

  3. Well, I have a big bumper sticker behind my desk that says "Question Authority," so I guess I believe if I student has an honest question about what's being taught or how it's being taught, then that student should definitely speak up!

  4. I think constructive criticism can be effective. I'm a fifth grade teacher and I use this with my students. I think if you develop rapor with students and teach them the importance of respect ahead of time they can handle this. I learned a lot from my elementary students, and they were able to address pluses and deltas in a respectful manner.
