  1. Stop worrying, us Aussies like a wide range of cuisines. Australia is very multicultural and we enjoy foods from all around the world.

Just cook the food you normally cook for yourself and they will love it. One thing I would find out is if they are Vegetarians or have any food allergies. For example I can't eat shell fish.

We call f***y Packs "Bum Bags" If you ask them if they have a f***y pack, they are going to laugh there heads off. In Australia it's only females who have f***y's (if you know what I mean). So if you say to a bloke you have a nice f***y he is going to look very strangely.

I have been to the USA heaps of times and some of the funniest conversations I have had while visiting is talking about using the same words but having different meanings.

Here are some examples. If you are called Randy here in Australia, that means you are horny. Another one is if you are watching football and say "I root for them" we are going to have another good laugh. The word root here also means having s*x.

I am sure you guys are going to have a great time together and share a lot of laughs.

    From Sydney Australia

  2. Australians like a variety of foods, being a multicultural country and all

If they arent vegetarian, vegan or have any other dietry requirements (allergies, etc) then maybe cook steak with vegies and mash potatoe or potato salad

Austraolians also like salads, fish, chicken shnitzels, bugers, roast vegies, pasta and pizza.....from my eperience, try not to cook oily and fatty foods as we always think there is a lot of unhealthy food in U.S.A.....I am sure there is good food too though.....with things to say do not say 'f***y' it is something a woman has......you could say g'day mate.....but do not worry too much about what you say...if someone is travelling to another county (in which case your Mums pen pal is) then they can adapt to the words and language of that country...have a great time!

  3. Australia being a very multi-cultural country and so there are lots of different types of cuisine. Pretty much any food is good, not too spicy though. Don't make the meals too big.

    Check their dietry requirements.

Do Not use the phrase 'f***y Pack' they'll have no idea what your talking about, say bum bag.

  4. Yes. Aussie's eat everything. My family eats more multicultural stuff that traditional Aussie food.

But a good old fashioned BBQ always goes down well. If your after a dessert, you can't beat pavlova.

A helpful hint though......Aussie's don't consider peanut butter, tomato sauce and potato chips health foods.

  5. As everyone else has said - Australia is a multicultural country - we eat a large variety of food.  It is safe to go with chicken or steak, potatos and some vegies - but to be honest - I think they would like to eat what you usually eat!  That is the fun of going overseas - to experience the different cultures.  Take them to places you go to all the time - or places that you would like to go to.

As far as words go - I would not worry - Australians will just laugh off anything that sounds strange - so you will get it pretty quickly.  Just one thing - if they start talking about 'thongs' they are talking about flip-flops, not underwear!!!

We are an easy-going type of culture so you really shouldn't worry too much.

  6. maybe take them to wisc. dells. go on the duck boats or whatever. they might like that. they pretty much eat the same stuff as us. just different meats. ya know?

i'm sorry i couldnt really help. lol. =]
