IHome ih9 how do i make it work on battery power?

Question

I have the iHome iH9 and i want to be able to unplug it and still having it playing i know that i can because it comes with 2 double a batteries in it but everytime that i unplug it it just completely shuts off no lights or anything how do i make it work on battery power please help 10 points to best answer of course
