    When you say "Peter's" that's initially taking care of the fact that something belongs to him

    Saying "A friend of" + "Peter's" is redundant

  4. 1 is correct of the two, but I would say "Peter's friend told me that..."

    The book is wrong.  In this case it's redundant. "Friend of" and "Peter's" have the same meaning.  That's like saying "My mine friend.."  What's the name of your book?
