IIS 7 questions. ? Is it like Apache? Domain? FTP?

I have questions on IIS 7.0

Do I need apache? Or is IIS itself like Apache?

Will the site run on localhost port 80? Then I use my domain registrar and forwarf it to my IP?

Can I put sub directories? Ex. forum.rowehosting.com

support.rowehosting.com

Can someone connect to a online panel and control domains and stuff?

How do I have FTP on it? And create FTP users, rights etc..

Please help. I'm new to IIS

Thanks!

  1. "Do I need apache? Or is IIS itself like Apache?"

IIS is Microsoft's competitor to Apache. They serve the same purpose, so having both would be redundant.

"Will the site run on localhost port 80? Then I use my domain registrar and forward it to my IP?"

You're not phrasing this exactly right, but I think you have the right idea.

"Can I put sub directories? Ex. forum.rowehosting.com

    support.rowehosting.com"

Yes, IIS supports this out of the box.

"Can someone connect to a online panel and control domains and stuff?"

Yep, there's a web interface that lets you do most of the administrative tasks. I think there might be some more complicated stuff that you have to do through the native interface, but generally you can use the web. I think the web interface only works with Internet Explorer, though.

"How do I have FTP on it? And create FTP users, rights etc.."

IIS is also an FTP server. Setting up an FTP site is very similar to setting up a web site. When I last used IIS, you had to actually create FTP users as system accounts, and then just configure them so that they can only use FTP. It'd be nice if there were IIS-only accounts but I don't think there are (unless MS has added this feature in the last couple years).

    Hope this helps.
