Hello!

I have a condo which has radiant heat in the ceiling, how would I install a ceiling fan without damaging the heat panels? Would I call an electrician or a heating/cooling person?

Thanks in advance!

  1. It is possible to do.   If there is no existing wiring to a ceiling light, they will have to fish-in one.  A hole will need to be made where you want the light, and the heating cabling carefully moved.   Without an attic above there will be fish holes to plaster and paint afterwards.

Even with an existing light, the ceiling box will need to be replaced with one rated as a fan support.

The electrician might suggest replacing the radiant heat with baseboard type, which heats the room faster, then they won't have to be so careful with what's in the ceiling.

  2. Here's something that needs to be answered first,,,

Is there a ceiling light fixture where the fan would be located ?

Is there living space above the ceiling or attic space ?

The answer to those two questions will save you some bucks and determine if it is possible.

An electrician would be the person to call as he could decide if it was at all possible.

  3. An electrician will tell you what it will take to install the run for the fan. He can deal with the panels also since they're electric.
