IM CONFUSED! Limewire is illegal, right?

Question

I want to know if you can get caught and in a lot of trouble downloading songs off limewire. I've never used it before and I want a bunch of songs to listen to so i dont have to buy them. its not like im going to resell them, i just want to listen. can i get in trouble without me knowing it? and can you tell me how to use it

The application is not illegal, but downloading copyrighted content is. Therefore you could get into trouble if you download enough to get noticed (or more importantly, upload enough).

Pandora.com is an online radio station that hosts tons of free songs, and because they pay to play them, is completely legal.

it is not illegal because it is file-sharing. just don't upload anything and you will be fine.

If you download it it's okay, however, if you upload songs/movies etc. then it is illegal.
