  1. Aaron is crazy. Nobody in their right mind would pay $5000 for a cheap 12 year old car with 200K miles.

I'd pay maybe $1000 for it. At least that way I'd have a budget to get a JDM imported engine with 40K miles on it and swap it in myself giving me a decently running car for under $2000. 200K miles is pretty much trash for a lot of cars not sure on a Tercel but I wouldn't expect much.

  2. That car is about used up. You should figure on replacing or rebuilding the running gear soon. You don't mention the price so it's hard to say if it is a good deal or not.

  3. Too many miles, don't buy it. Somebody wants to get rid of it, and badly. That's why it is so cheap. You would face major repair, especially if you fail the "smoke test". Then you face the dilemma to invest big bucks in a worn out car. This would truly be a bad choice.

Apparently, you are a young lady with little money. so here is my advise, based on the assumption that you need a dependable car.

Buy an inexpensive new car: Two makes, 1) Hyonda 2) KIA

Both are made in Korea, they are approaching the quality of the Japanese cars at a much lower cost, and they give you a 100,000 mile, 10 yr warranty. So , you are covered for 10 years.

Go to a dealer and ask if the manufacturer offer any special deals. Right now is a good time to ask. Go for the lowest interest rate you can get, and the longest period possible. Make sure you get a clause in your contract for an early loan payoff without a penalty (just in case you come into money). Go for it, girl

For 10 years, no car problems, that's a good deal. But stay with the two Korean makes or a Honda Civic, but Honda won't match the warranty.

  4. You never said how much you are paying for the car. A car with that many miles is a risk, regardless of its make. Unless the car has service records, make sure you evaluate the car and have a mechanic look it over if possible. Good luck!

  5. If the Toyota is cheap I may consider it.  Maybe pay $800 - $1200 for it.  But a car that is 12 years old with 200K miles will break down a lot.  It will need repairs.

Try to find something with less than 100K miles that is no more than 10 years old.

  6. $5,000 - $10,000 should do it.
