I'M TRYING TO BIKE A KAWASAKI VOYAGER ZG1200 XII WITH 40,000 MILES. THE BIKE IS IN GREAT CONDITION BUT I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE YEAR OF THE BIKE AND THE MILES. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG THESE BIKES LIVE UNTIL SEEING ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES? THANKS!

  1. With Proper care, 100,000 should be no problem.

  2. This bike should have many more miles and years available.  Don't know what you will be paying for it, but I think you will be pleased.

    Good luck.

  3. Apparently at least 22 years.

I still see that model around occasionally, so they do still run and parts are still (probably mostly) available for them.

They were built around a good engine and would easily have been able to attain 100,000 miles.  If this one is properly maintained, you should be able to reach those kinds of miles.

One caveat, it takes a special type of rider to trust a 22 year old bike on a long distance trip where the local Kawasaki dealer isn't going to have the part you need in stock when it does break on the road.  If you are that kind of adventurer, then go for it.

I ride long distance on a 34yo beemer, so know a bit about this.  Most BMW dealers long ago gave up working on these bikes, so you need to be more self sufficient.

  4. I owned a 2000 model and it was all but bulletproof. Traded it in with 75,000 miles on it and it ran like new. One nice thing about these bikes, they made very few changes from 1986 to 2004, except for color. Almost all parts interchange from year to year.

On any bike of that age, I would make very sure of things like fluids, seals, brake pads, tires, etc., especially if the bike has been sitting for a while...

  5. Kawasaki? Japanese motorbike? At least 200.000 miles
