1. First of all, get you a _paper_ bag and breathe slowly.. In.. Out.. In.. Out..

Now, you will need a form of photo ID, preferably Gov't Issued like a State ID Card, or Driver's Licence, or passport. You won't need al three, as long as you have one of those.. Since you ordered your ticket online, you may be able to check-in online 24 hrs before take-off, check your airline's website for details.

When you get to the airport, go to the terminal where your airlines leaves from, and they'll have a check-in desk or possibly an automated check-in kiosk. This will be before you go through security.

If you're checking bag on the plane (as in, baggage that's going under the plane), you'll need to go to the desk with airline personnel so they can check it all the way to your final destination. If you just have carry-on (don't have any baggage going under the plane), you can just check in with the kiosk for your airline.

The desk personnel and the kiosk will print your boarding passes, no mater which one you go with. If you're making a connection, they'll print out both the first flight's pass and the connecting flight's pass. If it's a nonstop flight, just the one for that flight.

Now, when you go through security, it's best to take out any electronics (camcorder, computer, etc) out and into the screening trays. It's also a good idea to put your keys, coins, all metals items inside your carry-on bag, and you'll lay your carry-on bag flat on the conveyor belt of the X-Ray machine. This will be quicker than digging into your pocket, putting the loose metal items in the tray, and then scraping all of those items from the tray. See how time consuming that would be, not only for you, but everyone else if they did it that way?

You'll need to take your shoes off, and if you're wearing one, any belts with metal buckles on them and put then in the tray.

Check the website below from TSA for info about what liquids you can bring on the plane and how to pack them.

When given the ok to walk through the metal detector, you'll need your ID and boarding pass in hand; it will slow up the process if you leave them in the tray.

Once you get past the security gate (Remember, you can't bring any drinks past the security gates that you have brought from home/work/stores; only drinks bought past the security gates are allowed on the plane) and onto the plane, they'll usually ask that you put your carry-on under the seat in front of you if it will fit, or in the overhead compartments.

Any other questions, just ask..! =)

  2. Just ask when you check your baggage in...I'm sure any employee will know the answer. You are allowed two carry-ons, they have you walk through a scanner and put loose articles through another scanner at security. The first counter you come to when you walk in is where you check your bags in, they are labeled as is your carry-on stuff just in case. Just do yourself a favor and eat before you get there. Don't leave the Gate once you get there or you might miss your flight standing in a fast-food line, plus the food is expensive.

  3. First of all calm down. You will have a great time. You will go to your airline (who you are flying with) United etc. They will check you in and give you a boarding pass. Then you will go to the terminal. Yes you have to take your shoes off. Do not carry anything on board that is not needed on the plane check everything. You will need your ID that is all. If you have a confirmation # that might be helpful in case of a problem. You put your carry on under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. Look out the window. What a view. You will need some gum so your ear do not pop. You have to buy any soda inside the terminal after you go thru security. Do not take any liquid on the plane not even lip gloss.

  4. U GO TO THE TICKET COUNTER AND ASK FOR UR TICKET AND HAVE YOUR PASSPORT WITH YA... THEY WILL CHECH UR BAG DONT WEAR ANYTHING METAL CUZ U WILL HAVE TO GET SCREENED U CAN KEEP YOUR SHOES ON... ID IS GD TO AND THEY GONNA CHACK ALL YOUR BAGS .. RELAX AND HAVA GD TRIP

  5. You are going to be ok.

The first thing to do is print out your E-ticket information. It is usually e-mailed to you after you paid for it.

When arriving, bring that information with you because it usually has a code to get your ticket electronically, it has all your flight info and it serves as a receipt.

When you arrive at the airport, head to your airlines' counter. Determine if you need to be in the first class line or not. Your reciept should say so. Wait in line and when it is your turn, proceed to the counter where an attendant will be waiting for you. give the attendant your drivers license or state issued ID (Don't need a passport unless leaving the country). If the attendant tells you to go to the computer screen (kiosk) or if there is no attendant, but everyone else is going to the kiosk, then head to the kiosk and enter your information. Usually it asks for your code that's on your e-ticket reciept you printed out or your last name. Enter the information (like check bags) and your tickets should print out along with luggage tags that will tell the handlers where to deliver your luggage. If there is no kiosk, the attendant will do this for you. Afterwards, give the luggage to the designated screener (the attendant or TSA member should tell you) or give it to the attendant if they ask you.

Then head towards security and wait in line. Usually you'll have your ticket and ID card out. Once those are checked, go put your carryon luggage on the conveyor belt for screening. Make sure it doesn't have any weapons or liquids in it. (There's a sign saying what you can't bring on an airplane) Also, take off your shoes and put it on the conveyor belt. Most airports require you take off your shoes. After that, make sure you have no metal on you, and when the TSA screener tells you to, walk through the metal detector. If you are chosen, you might get a pat down and a once over by a hand held metal detector.

Once you clear security.Find your gate and wait for your flight. Do not leave your bag unattended. You don't want to ruin everyones day.

You do not have to check in at the counter at your gate. That counter is for special circumstances.

Make sure you give yourself at least two hours to go through security and make your flight. Some flights i've been on board more than a half hour early.

Also, be sure to follow the signs and read the computer monitors frequently.

When you get to LA follow the signs to baggage claim.

Don't worry on the plane either. Planes hardly ever crash, that's why they make the news when they do. Turbulence is nothing to be afraid of either. I was told it's when the cool air of the airplane from the higher altitude hits warmer air. The plane won't break apart.

    Have fun!

  6. Ok, first of all, just arrive early. If you've never been there before, why not just go five hours early. Even though I've done this before, I still like to arrive four hours early. The business matters will probably only take about two to three hours: printing your ticket from a computer, waiting for somebody to check your baggage (the ones you don't need during your flight), going through security, and walking to the gate your plane is leaving from, and a sometimes a lot of waiting in line; but they have lots of nice shops and restaurants after security, so it's not like you'll be bored.

Here's what you need to do:

Before you leave your house to go to the airport, find out which terminal your airline uses. Also, print the confirmation email with your ticket information on it. Bring a drivers' license or passport. If you bought the tickets, bring the card you used as well. REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE AIRLINE.

Once you're inside, look at the signs. First you have to find the place where you get your tickets. Just look for the name of your airline.

Then you have to check your baggage. Usually the place where you get your tickets is also where they check your luggage. An attendant will take your bag and walk you through the process.

Then you go through security. The person who checks your baggage can point you in the right direction. Otherwise, just look for signs, again. At the security check point, you will have to hand over everything you are carrying to be sent through an x-ray machine, including, yes, your shoes. This is the scariest part. It makes you feel like a criminal.

After that, smooth sailing. All you have to do is find your gate and have a seat. You will need to look at one of the TV's displaying flight information to find your gate number, and then just follow the signs to your gate.

If you ever have questions, just look for a uniformed attendant. I would also recommend visiting the website for your airline. They will tell you any baggage limitations they have. Good luck! I think the more time you allow yourself before your flight, the less nervous you should feel. Also, why not have somebody who is familiar with LAX drop you off?

  7. First of all, dont be afraid. Traveling can be quite enjoyable if you are prepared. If you have purchased your ticket online, then you should be able to check in for your flight online 24 hours in advance. This allows you to print out your boarding pass. You need that to get on the flight. If you can not print it out, simply go to the ticket counter once you get to the airport and they will do it for you or you can check in at a kiosk in the ticketing area. Your boarding pass is what you will need to get through security and it allows you access to the aircraft.

After you arrive at the airport, if you have bags to check, you may check them outside with the skycap (tips are nice) or you may go inside and check them at the ticket counter. You should receive baggage claim tickets. You may not need them to pick up your bags but keep them just in case your bags get lost. That makes it easier for the airline to track them down (and they do).

After you get checked in (boarding pass and bags cheked), you will proceed to security. You will have to show a valid form of id (license or passport) as well as your boarding pass to pass through the metal detectors. You may also have a carry on bag with you. Call your airline to see how large it may be. When it is almost your turn to go through security, you will see some bins. You will put your shoes, belt, and any other metal that you think may cause the alarms to go off in the bin. If you are traveling with a lap top, you must take it out of your bag and place it in one of the bins. Keep your id and boarding pass with you because most of the time, you show it again as you walk through the metal detectors. Also, you need to check all of your liquids with your check in bags. In your carry on bag, you may only have up to 3 ounces of liquids, toothpaste, deodorant, lipstick,etc..You may have up to 3 ounces of each kind placed in a quart sized ziploc..You may want to look at southwest.com under baggage and it will tell you the federal allowance (of liquids) to take as carry ons. I am sure your airline will have it too. Once you go through security, you should put your id away because it is the last time you will need it. Many people leave their id at security.

Your next step is to go to one of the monitors located throughout the concourse and see which gate your flight is departing from. The agent at the ticket counter will tell you but it is best to double check. Things change minute by minute at the airport. Your boarding pass will tell you what time they begin allowing passengers on flights, most of the time it is 30 to 45 minutes before departure time.

Your last steps are to show your boarding pass to the gate agent, get on your aircraft, and enjoy your flight!!!!

PS- the food and soft drinks that you buy in the airport may be taken onto the aircraft.

For clarification- skycap: the dude who can check your bags in for you on the outside of airport.

    boarding pass: ticket

ticket couter: the area inside the airport where you can check in and ask questions

kiosk: a machine, usually in the ticket counter area, that allows you to check in without waiting in line

councourse:hallway where the gates are located

gate: the port of door that you must pass through in order to embark upon your aircraft

I would strongly suggest that you get to the airport two hours prior to your flight so that you can take your time, ensure you have enough time to get through security, and become familiar with things. After one experience, you will be the savvy traveler if you take your time and pay attention.

    I hope this helps.
