  1. Definitely tylenol! Bring chap-stick, i know that it sounds really weird, but it really came in handy when i got my braces a few months ago! Ipod if you feel like it, personally i just space out when i'm at the dentists or orthodontist. It'll feel a little weird for the first few days, but in the long run your teeth will be Beautiful!!!

  2. 2 years from now you'll be happier than ever...trust me

well 2 years and a week  (week to get used to the loss of braces)

  3. CALM DOWN! It's not that bad, I promise. I just got mine last Thursday and you have nothing to worry about. Take a pain killer before you go just in case. I took my iPod, but make sure you only have one ear-bud in. None of the process is really painful. More funky feeling and awkward. The next week or so will hurt a little, so plan on eating soft foods. The first two or three days are the worst, but it gets better. You will get used to them eventually. Here's what they do: They take out your spacers. Then they put the things that hold the wires over the teeth that had the spacers between them. They take them back out and have the orthodontist put them back on with glue this time. This is the most uncomfortable part of the process and glue tastes REALLY bad. Then they dry the glue with this weird looking thing. It takes forever! Then they clean your teeth and brush glue on them. They put this thing in your mouth that holds your lips and cheeks away from your teeth. It feels weird at first, but you get used to it in a minute or so. Then the orthodontist comes back and puts the brackets on. They go back and dry the glue on all the brackets and then take the plastic thing out. Then they will put the wires in. This feels weird and hurts a little bit (depending on your pain tolerance) but it's not bad. Then they let you pick one or two colors (depending on which you prefer) and tie the bands on. The only way I can describe this feeling is binding your teeth up and not letting them push forward. I don't know... It's weird and does hurt a tiny bit. Then they're done!! They tell you how to brush right, floss, and use your wax. Wax, by the way, is your new best friend. It's awesome and helps heal sores a lot better then the rinse that your supposed to buy. Your teeth will be sore that night if you don't periodically take pain killers, which I advise doing for the first two or three days. Then, you get to eat soft foods for like....a week. Ice cream is the best. The cold feels reeaally good on your sore teeth. Besides, just think of the end product. I think a little discomfort here and there is totally worth a beautiful smile :)

    I hope this helps!!!  :D

  4. its nothing to be afraid of.  i went through the whole braces thing already, and looking back i'd have to say that getting them on just took a long time but didn't actually hurt.  I'd make sure to bring an ipod or something to the orthodontist, and take advil when it hurts.

  5. It only hurts for a couple of days, but it hurts A LOT. Normal pain relievers work well, and eat lots of yogurt. And there's no need for an I-pod unless you have a really short attention span. Just to warn you, afterwards you have this icky concrete-like stuff in your mouth that tastes like h**l.

  6. don't be scared! it's not that bad. =) i'd say bring your ipod so that it will calm you down beforehand. and dont be nervous, that'll just make things worse.

  7. if you want to take an iPod u should

there really isn't any pain when putting them on or anything so u don't need to worry, i had them for 2 years and 8 months and they never really were that bad. after getting them on it mite hurt a bit when u bite things but it only lasts for a day or two

  8. iPOD SOUNDS GOOD BUT THE ONLY THING TO BE SCARED OF IS WHEN THEY TIGHTEN IT. THATS IT.

    GOO LUCK

  9. an ipod would be a great distraction.  try to relax. it's not that bad.

  10. Take your mind off of it, go do something outside. For me, riding my bike helps refresh my mind. If you brought something with you for while your waiting, a gameboy or nintendo ds or some other hand held game would probably be more entertaining than an ipod (for me anyway)

  11. well it doesnt hurt to get them on...but your teeth will be sore afterwords for like a week....

dont be scared...its not like you are getting brain surgery

braces really do suck though...well if you are my age they do...im 16 and getting them off soon...i cant wait

    yeah but they are okay

just think about how great you are going to look in the end to calm you down

  12. well, i got braces in feb., and really, getting them on doesnt hurt at all... but when you get home i would take medicine.. it will start to hurt later, and for a day or 2 after your teeth will be sensitive, and then again everytime them are tightened...but honestly, relax, its not that big a deal..and remember to keep your teeth as clean as possible!! Good Luck!!

  13. Don't worry. It's all gonna be fine.

I have braces now. It didn't hurt at all, putting them on.

Don't bring tylenol. Most likely, your dentist will have some medicine.

Also, the pain usually doesn't come on until the next day. It won't hurt unless you have to chew hard.

    You can bring an ipod.

    EDIT:

For me, my teeth stopped hurting within 4 days.

  14. ok so here is the dealio, i have had braces for awhile now and it DOESN'T hurt when they are putting them on! It hurts a little when he/she is putting in your wires but that doesn't really matter! I am just going to tell you this just as a warning, YOUR MOUTH WILL HURT LIKE HECK THE FIRST FEW DAYS, SAY YOU HAVE PIZZA FOR DINNER, YOU WOULD HAVE TO CUT IT UP INTO LITTLE PIECES THEN EAT IT! I am not trying to scare you tho! After the first few days it shouldn't really hurt, it will basically feel like you don't have braces on!

  15. well they numb your mouth so you really can't feel anything but to calm you down you can listen to an ipod while they are working on your mouth

  16. More people are scared of your snaggle-tooth...........

  17. aww dont worry. =]  i got braces and they really dont hurt when you get them on. like, they kinda just hurt for a while when you chew and thats all. =]

  18. Ipod might be a good idea, some of the sounds can be unsettling, but it doesn't really hurt.  The next day...well, that does.

  19. it won't hurt until a few hours after they're done, but once it starts to hurt, eat foods you don't have to chew, (soup, yogurt, pudding). you should really take something like tylenol, advil, or aleve to make the pain go away. it will hurt a lot the first day, but you will get used to them soon. they'll probably give you wax, and use that on your braces when they start to cut your lips. an iPod is a good idea (i wish i had that idea) good luck!

  20. think about it as a good thing and u dont want to look like a freek right play some music and calm ur self down trust me been there don dat

  21. It doesn't hurt to get braces at all!

I went to the orthodontist one day, for what I thought was a retainer or something, and they stuck some braces on my back teeth...halfway through, I was like, "are you giving me braces??" yeah, for my headgear!!hahah...but yeah, no need for relaxants!

But yeah, it's boring just laying there so take your ipod

  22. no it doesn't hurt when they put it on. it just stings a little when they suck the saliva from your tongue then the rest easy, just be calm and it'll be done in no time. after the procedure is done, its a little numb so you mIght want to avoid eating chewy  foods like bread becauSe it stimulates your tetth. And don't drink anything really cold. Just use tylenol.

    HOPE THIS HELPED

  23. my ortho doesn't like ipods and cellphones, they can be distracting to him, especially when he's giving you directions to do something.

braces suck, i got mine off today, and it hurt like a ***** (only because my teeth were already sore)..

but after a while, your mouth goes numb while they put on the braces. it does hurt depending on who's putting on the braces.

i think the most annoying part was the cement to make the brackets stay put. bleh it burns my mouth and they have to dry out your tongue and mouth. and i hate the feel of cotton in my mouth.

  24. hmm, i would just relax.

    bringing an ipod would help.

  25. it wont hurt for like 3 hours after they put it on but it does after i just got mine tightend today i hate my stupif orthodontist
