  1. To immigrate, you must have a sponsor, an immediate blood relative (parent, adult child, sibling) who is a US citizen and has sufficient income and assets to support you and guarantee a $30,000 bond.

To remain in the US temporarily, you need a university degree plus at least 2 years experience beyond the baccalaureate degree, find a job with an employer who is willing and able to apply for an employment visa for you, and if you are approved for a visa, you can work here temporarily (e.g. H1-b visa is valid for up to 3 years, and may be renewed up to 3 more years).

Or if you work for a Canadian company which transfers you to their US office, they can apply for a visa for you.  This is actually the easiest (and least known) way of getting a temporary work permit for the US.

Word of warning: unemployment in the US is rising at the fastest rate since the Great Depression.  Over 450,000 Americans a week are being laid off.  This is making it harder for employers to prove there are no US citizens qualified for the job, a requirement which they must meet with the US Dept of Labor before they even submit a visa application.  Employers who have people here on visas are not renewing them or are outright terminating them, and in either case the visaholder must immediately return to their own country at their expense.  So unless you have an excellent education and extraordinary skills, you will have trouble finding a job in the US which will get you a temporary visa.

  3. i did but it was through marriage to a US citizen.

  4. YOu can come on a study permit and be lucky to get  job via an employer, or marry an american or get a job that is part of a nafta business. www.usa.gov for immigration and

www.uscis.gov for immigration website. i immigrated to canada from the usa but it is not that easy to immigrate on your own into the usa unless you are very rich and on a board of a corp. otherwise the first 3 ways i listed are the only other way.
