MY daughter will be 1 on June 29th.Tonight she went to sleep and woke back up around midnight and was twitching. They were not violant twitches but they did seem involuntary. Everytime she sat up she would kind of just roll over and lay back down. Then she started throwing up...it was not projectile or anything...she threw up about 6 times, not in a row they were spaced out somewhat. The first 3 times she threw up it looked like everything she had eaten today and then they rest were either dry heaves or very little came up.It really scared me.I have an older daughter(about to be 4) and I have been through it all pretty much.I can handle throwing up and all that but the twitching is what REALLY made me nervous. My question is has any1 else gone through this w/a child and maybe you can shed some light on it for me.Is this just a stomach bug?? Its really the twitches that got 2 me seein as its never happened before.Shes sound asleep now and seems fine.Could the twitchin be from just wakin up?

  1. It sounds like she may have had a seizure or infantile spasm. You should have her seen by her doctor.

  2. My son had that one time he had a serious stomach virus and couldn't keep anything down. I took him to the emergency room and while we were waiting he had a seizure and they immediately took him back and ran some test they said that his sodium level was so low from not keeping anything in his system it caused him to seize. It was very scary. He also has federal seizure's which are cause when his fever gets over 101.00. I would take her to the Dr. and tell him about it. it could be nothing be in this situation I wouldn't wait.

  3. I would take her to the er right away. It sounds like a mild seizure. Kids don't get twitchy from a flu bug. Take her in right away. You could catch a major problem before it gets worse.

  4. Wow. I don't know. I'd take her to the doctor as soon as possible. But, does she have a fever? It's possible that could be a febrile seizure. When babies/children have fevers, sometimes they have seizures. Supposedly, these seizures are harmless and you just have to keep anything that could hurt them away during that time. Regardless, take her to the doctor. You could even call them now. Her pediatrician's office should have an on-call nurse if it's the middle of the night.
