Ok I live with my mum and sister. Sis is at University mum only works 3 nights a week in Tesco. I earn £800 a month. No before I worked she used to get help with the rent (I forget what its called) but now they make me pay HALF the monthly rent (£200) which to me is highly unfair. I have oher things to pay and its draining me.

My sis an mum agree that they rented the flat to my mum they should take in HER circumstances when it comes to rent payment not MINE as they did not rent the place to ME and I did not sign and agreement with THEM!! I do agree I should be paying something but not HALF surely?? Maybe half the half I am paying now?? I really need some he;p if anyone knows I would be very greatful!

  1. A quarter of your monthly money for rent and to help your mother doesn't sound too unreasonable

  2. welfare isn't set up as a life style. its there to support you. if your mum hasn't got a job then you all have to abide by welfare rules. what your paying amounts to twenty five pounds a week.....if you were out there in the big wide world and living in a bedsit!! you would be paying about one hundred a week.( it aint so bad.)

  3. If you have left school, and you are earning a wage, then your are classed as a non dependant, and your wages must come into consideration when any means tested benefit is going to get awarded.

Do you contribute towards any other costs of running the house??

If you are not happy paying 200 pounds a month, well you could always get a place of your own, where it's going to cost you a whole lot more than that!!

  4. Welcome to the grown up world.

You live there, you've got to pay.

  5. Welcome to the real world , you wouldnt be able to live anywhere else so cheaply.

  6. Housing benefit forms ask the claimant about any non dependants living at the address and their income. You are that non dependant and your mum's benefit will be reduced because of your presence. So yes you have to pay or move out, at which point, if there are then no other non dependants, she will get full housing benefit if her income allows. Your local council's website may have a benefit calculator which you can enter the details into and it will give you a fairly accurate guide to your mum's entitlements

  7. yes but you live there dont you???????

youre fetching in an income,as well as your mother.so as far as the states concerned the monies coming into the house, renders your benefit entitelment regardless of whether its unfair or not.we would all like to go to work and not have bills to pay,but thats life.

if you think its draining you now,try moving out youll find youve got it cushy where you are???????

  8. Get a grip.  Everyone pays rent, thats life.  You shouldn't be relying on government hand outs.  ÃƒÂ‚£200 a month is a bargain!  You are seriously having a laugh if you think £100 a month rent is reasonable.  If your Mum is in a bad situation and you are living there OF COURSE you should pay half.  What makes you so special that anyone should subside your living??

NB I bought my own property last year and my rent and bills exceeded half my salary.  You are paying a quarter, think yourself lucky.
