When I press the power button on my imac, nothing happens. It acts the same as if it wasnt plugged in. Ive tested multiple power cables, removed and replaced ram, still not working. Anyone had this problem or got any ideas?

  1. Sorry to say but if no activity that means there is some power supply problem inside ur pc u have to get it done by your nearby vendour or if its undear worranty sure the company guys will help

  2. no, but I do find that i have to wait a couple seconds before i can press the power button almost as if it takes 4-5 seconds for power to start going through the cable becuase I take it with me to work (lighting technician and sound operator). I suggest you contact apple about this problem.

If you actually knew about macs, you'd know that iMac's are desktop pc's and do not have batteries so; even if you will shoot your mouth off please do me a favor and do a little research first.

  3. your battery may be over heated!

  4. The battery may be dead.  If you still have warranty, apple will replace it for free just bring it to them.

  5. get a PC lol I always wanted to say that

  6. take it to a place like pc world for them to have a look at. Normally their staff is very helpful.

    but its not free.

  7. Unplug it from everything (not just power but keyboard and everything), and hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Then put it all back and try again.

  8. Dumb question, but have you tried any other devices in that outlet? Maybe it's your house that's broken ;)

As mentioned, unplug it for a minute or so then plug it back in and try again. If it doesn't work, there's not much more you can do on your own. Take it to an Apple store and the Geniuses will check it out for free.

  9. Unplug it, remove the battery, hold on to the power button for awhile to release any static electric.

  10. Sounds like a dead power supply, but that might not be the issue.

First of all, make sure the outlet you're using is working; plug a lamp in (one that you know works) and turn that on. If it lights up, it's not the outlet.

Then plug in the iMac, and try again. If it still doesn't work, wait about 10 seconds, then hold down the power button on the iMac for 10 seconds (this might reset the power manager). If that doesn't work, search Apple's website for 'reset iMac PMU' and see if you can find instructions for your Mac.

If resetting the PMU doesn't work, you either have an older iMac G3 (the colored ones) that might have a bad backup battery (3.6V lithium battery inside), or your iMac's power supply is toast. In either case, it's probably a good idea to take it to the Apple Store or call 1-800-SOS-APPLE and get support. If you let us know the model of the iMac, or describe it better, we can give you more help.
