I have a Mac OSX and when I go away from my keyboard for like 10 minutes, the screen goes black, and when i hit the mouse, I have to enter my pass to get to the desktop, now I understand why it does that and glad it does... but once it tells me to type my pass in, I can turn off the cpu, turn it back on, and it will go straight to desktop? Anyone know why it does this

  1. It's probably set to automatic login for your user.

    Go to:

System preferences > Accounts > Login Options (bottom of the users list)

click the lock & enter your password

then choose disabled from the automatic login pull-down menu.

Now it will require a password when you restart.

When the Mac is initially set up it's default is to auto-login the primary user.

  2. it remember its you

    you can change your preferences

to save electricity, since monitors eat it up, it goes dark if you stop typing or mousing

it 'powers down'  you tap the spacebar, and it comes right back

I have never tapped the mouse, I always tap the spacebar to 'wake it up'
