The power of perception.

anyone involved with computers(besides a carguy i enjoy being a computer geek)will know of the bad perception of microsoft windows vista and microsoft wanted to change that so they did the mojave experiment.

they had people use a operating system they called "mojave" these people reported back on it and most said it was better than any operating system they used before. Then they were told it was windows vista with another name.. these people were stunned, they thought windows vista was bad and never gave it a chance but once they did they loved it.

This pertains to cars like this.. being a pro domestic person i believe that the common public doesn't know the truth behind domestics and just assume imports like toyota are better. These people say this with out any knowledge of cars and don't even give the domestics a chance.

All in all i hope that people will give domestics a chance, they will find they like them.

  1. I have driven over 200 cars.

    Many domestics and imports.

    From experience, I know imports are better.

    The new Ford cars are getting great reviews. That is because they are copies of the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. Ford owns 33.5% of Mazda so they are using their chassis, engines, and quality now how.

  2. im all for domestics and stuff but the fact of the matter is that imports such as hondas are more reliable and higher build quality.  from my experience of cars ive driven and been around i would go with imports.  my family has two honda civics, a pontiac sunfire, and a ford explorer.  we have had no problems with the hondas and both the sunfire and explorer have had many problems even though the explorer is newer and has half as many miles as both civics. also my dad bought an 85 camaro  new and he was constantly workin on that car even though it had very little miles. Given both domestic and imports have come a long way since1985. with all that being said i believe imports might be better, domestic isnt that far behind.

  3. It is not an assumption that imports are better, it is substantiated fact! I have been a long-time honda owner when we needed a mini-van in 1994. We bought the Grand caravan because the honda at the time was small with a 4 cyl. The Dodge was the worst pile of c**p ever screwed together!

    Remember all of the Vegas, Pintos, Escorts, K-cars, Citations, and Pacers? No? Well go look in the local junk yards, they are all there! How many times have you driven a Cobalt, then a Civic or Corolla immediately after? Or a Lincoln and then an Acura, Lexus or Infinity? If you had you would not have posted this question.

    How about all of the Consumer Report articles that prefer imports? How about Car and Driver, Road and Track, Motor Trend and Automobile magazines?  They have been bashing the domestics for DECADES and begging them to build decent cars. J.D. Power tracks all makes for customer satisfaction and quality. Guess what dominates; imports.

    that would be nice except for somebody like me.  My family always owned domestic cars (my father).  I was the one to always fix it (as I love working on cars).  Domestic cars are always junk.

    Then as I grew up I tried few Japanese and german cars.  German cars are also screwy (expensive to maintain).  Japanese cars  run rock solid.  I still own a 94 civic with 187K miles and it runs like new.

    ===

    So you might have SOME point with other un-knowledgeable car owners.  But there are others like myself (who actually fix their own car) knows by experience.

    Good Luck...

    P.S.  I will check out the Mojave experiment.  I used to be a mac person and I know there was a lot of anti mac sentiment (back early 90's) when in fact most people who "hated" macs have never even touched them.

    === update===

    P.P.S.  I just saw the Mojave experiment. MS sucks.  Any window will run flawlessly for few minutes (especially when newly installed). Just like every car will run flawlessly for few test miles. That experiment is just BS!  It does not bode well for your argument.

  5. The new domestics are every bit as good as the imports.  GM and Ford both make very good cars.

    German cars always seem to have expensive electrical problems.

    Not all Japanese cars are good.  Yes Honda is good.  Toyota has slipped but is still pretty good.  Nissan is average at best.  Mazda is good but its a Ford so they are also good.  Mitsubishi makes some of the worst cars on the road (other than the EVO which is excellent and the Raider which is a Dodge and pretty good).

  6. I think all above say it all,myself after owning American, German and Japanese,have now stuck with Japanese and on our 5th now wouldn't go back.
