If you wanted to know just if it was acid or base, use litmus paper.

Some solutions will dissolve the universal indicator out of the paper.

btw: have you ever licked that stuff ugh. we did that in our biology class and i was like EWW this is so bitter. but half the ppl were like i dont taste anything. haha soo off topic but o well
