INDIANS ONLY: What is a good dish.... ?

My husband and I love Indian food and would like to take his parents to an Indian restaurant (we're white, by the way). We love, and I even make, Indian food and other kinds of spicy, ethnic food. We think his dad would like it, but his mom is very sensitive to a lot of spices in general and to spicy-hot foods. Is there any type of Indian food that she could order? Thank you so much; I appreciate it! :)

  1. Indian food is really tasty, and its one of the hundreds that make me proud to be Indian!!

For those sensitive to spicy food, the reshmi, malai and other such kebabs are a good bet. They're scrumptuously delicious yet light for those not fond of spices.

  2. jelly and ice cream ????

  3. fruit salad with black current icecream and a fish.rarely they hate it

  4. If you're in USA most of the Indian restaurants don't have spicy food.

But as a first timer I would recommend to talk to the restaurant and find out which dish is good and can they make it not spicy.

Also you can try any chicken dish which is always good in taste, try jeera (cumin) fried rice with daal fry or tadka daal. You can also try some vegetarian dishes.

After your dinner or lunch you can get some sweets like gulab jamum which is really good.

Well Hope this helps, if you want I can give you more suggestions. I do make some nice indian curries :)

  5. Try Roti or idli they don't have any kind of spices and are very tasty

  6. 2 b easy try out south indian but south indin means not non-veg.....but ordering south indian is a good experience!!

  7. Theres samosa. ts very good. It has potatas, chicken and vegatables in a torilla coned shaped. THeres lots of curry too.

  8. try butter chicken or any kinda curry or try masala dosa or butter chicken with naan...ummm. try biryani as well

  9. Panner Butter Masala and Butter Naan. You could also try fried rice.

  10. idly and dosa -Vegetarian  but nice south Indian food

  11. Well, there are some indian food items that she can order which are not generally spicy.  For starters you can order dumplings, cheese pakora etc.. Those are fries but mostly have salt and a pinch of spices. For main course: I noticed that malai kofta is generally low of spices and high of taste. And almost all deserts, rice, and yogart dishes are low on spices.

You can find some less spices indian dishes at the following location.

  12. STACEY,

HONESTLY, YOU ARE IN A BIND, CAUGHT BETWEEN THE ROCK & A HARD PLACE.

I SUPPOSE YOUR MAJOR WORRY IS YOUR MOM-IN-LAW.

WELL, FROM THIS LITTLE INFO THAT YOU HAVE PUT FORTH, YOUR BEST OPTIONS ARE AT LOOKNIG UP FRONTIER CUISINE. CURRY / MASALA OUTLINE A VERY BROAD OUTLOOK, COZ RIGHT FROM THE SOUTHERN TIP OF INDIA TO THE NORTHERN STATE OF JAMMU & KASHMIR, CURRY IS WELL KNOWN & PREPARED.

I SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT YOGURT / TOMATO / BOILED ONION PASTE BASED DISHES FOR HER. SOME ONE HAS SUGGESTED BUTTER CHICKEN. THAT IS A GOOD OPTION, BUT CAN GET SPICY DEPENDING IF IT IS PREPARED BY BANGLADESHI OR INDIAN COOKS.

LOOK FOR A DISH CALLED PALAK MURGH. IT IS A DISH WITH PUREED SPINACH LEAVES WHICH HAS A TEMPERING OF GARLIC & CUMIN SEEDS. VERY GOOD FOR THE HEART & FOLKS WITH BLOOD PRESSURE.

IF SHE PREFERS FISH, A MILD FISH CURRY (NOT SOUTH INDIAN) WOULD BE PERFECT. ALSO, THE BENGALIS MAKE A DISH CALLED "DOI MACH' MEANING YOGURT WITH FISH. VERY LIGHT & IT BRINGS OUT THE FLAVOR OF THE FISH.
