INSTALLING A SUB QUESTION! ?

Hi there.,

i have a few questions to see what i can do to hook up my subs!

1. can i hook my amp and 2 subs up to the radio that came with the 1998 ford explorer (factory radio)

2. will it burn out the (factory radio)?

3. can i leave all the speakers (factory speakers) in the explorer cause there is 4 and i really dont want to replace them all

all i want to really do is add more bass so i just want to add 2 sub woofers so can i keep the 2 speakers that came with the explorer in and do i have to chang the radio?

4. is there lots of bass ?

5. what do i do with the speakers in the winter? take them out or leave them in?

last 6. can i turn the bass off or is it on all the time?

  1. A1. Yes you can keep the factory radio. All you will need is a line output converter. You can actually get one in the automotive section at wal mart.

    A2. As long as everything is installed properly, it will not damage any of the factory equipment, including the radio.

    A3. Yes, you can keep all of the factory equipment. Head unit, speakers, amp(if you have the bose system)

    A4. There can be as much, or as little bass as you want. Or, as much as your budget can afford.

    A5. You can take them out in the winter if you like. i usually keep mine in. Just make sure that you let the subs warm up a little before you crank it up. Just play them at low volume for a few minutes to let the coils heat up.

    A6. Of course you can turn the bass off if you want. The best 2 ways to do that are to install a remote gain control. which will turn the subs down. Or, my personal favorite, install a switch on the line that you run to the amp. This will completely disable the amp.
