Says:

Determine the inverse functions for the functions below. Begin by switching varaiables in the original function, then solving for the 'new' y. For each case sketch the function and its inverse.

Have no idea what this is or what to do. Please explain how u found answer. 10 Points! :)

3. y= (2/3)x - 4

What is the inverse fuction for this and what in the invariant?

  1. 3y=(2/3)x-4

    add 4 to both sides =>

    3y+4 = (2/3)x . now multiply by 3/2 ( the reverse for 2/3)

    (3/2)(3y+4)= x <=> (9/2)y + 6 = x.

    this is the inverse function.

  2. I assume that you know how to graph functions by creating a set of values for x and y then plotting them.  To find the inverse of this function you simply switch the x and y variables and solve for y.

    y = (2/3)x - 4

    SWITCH X AND Y

    x = (2/3)y - 4

    x + 4 = (2/3)y

    (3/2)(x+4) = y

    (3/2)x + 6 = y
