  1. You must define th domain of x and the range of y first.By inspection, the inverse function of

    f: R-{0}------->R-{0}

    f(x)=1/x  

    is

    f^(-1):R-(0)-------->R-{0}

    f^(-1)=1/x

    They look the same, since f and f^(-1) are symmetrical about the line

    y=x and about the origin in the diagram.
