  1. Firefox doesn't block all the viruses but it is more security with no script and a firewall. No script is a firefox addon.

  2. I used Internet Explorer for 4 years and constantly had difficulties, viruses and more, I now use FireFox and have loved it cuz I no longer have any of the problems I had with IE.  You have to do some research, including going to www.firefox.com   All I can say is FF is terrific where I'm concerned and I've only been using a computer for about 8 yrs.  I'm far from a pro but FF makes it easy to use my computer.

I don't know where you live but in almost any city in U.S. you can get free help at city libraries, also some high schools offer adult computer classes, cheap.  When you purchased your Gateway, didn't Gateway offer any classes?  If so take some classes, even if only for a few basic lessons.  It helps you learn quickly.  You're not helpless, you only think you are.  It's easier than you think.  Just be sure to invest in a basic Norton Antivirus program, so you aren't battling viruses.  There are crazy folks who get a perverse joy out of sending viruses to computers, cuz they can.

  3. It's not exactly true that Firefox can block all viruses, like Trojans slip past undetected, but it does block stupid sickass viruses. However it is more secure than IE since it has some ActiveX blockers and a Java Script running all the time. Moreover I find the addons in Firefox pretty cool, like the Google Preview and some really cool themes. So Firefox would be anyday a better choice. Go for the latest Firefox 3 series. I am typing this shitload on a Firefox.

  4. Its mostly a personal preference issue, although I think Firefox is ahead of the curve when it comes to features and security with Internet Explorer usually playing catch up.

  5. Internet explorer is preferred mainly, but If you ask me, I go for Firefox. As you posted, it indeed blocks viruses, spams and Trojans. The facility of tabbed browsing is not available in many versions of Internet explorer excluding version 7 and 8 beta. Internet explorer 7 usually gets stuck if we start downloading a series of pages. Firefox has more privacy when compared with the Internet explorer relating to browsing and has a variety of options. Though the start screen of Firefox seems dull, the topics give a meaningful description for easy understanding. Firefox is a clean and perfect browser though not much preferred.I suggest you to go for Firefox.
