IO Cable boxes?

Im finding it very hard to understand how IO digital cable is getting away with this monopoly they have on there cableboxes. These boxes are not a secrete technology! They are using the same technology that Direct TV has been using for twenty years. If I dont want or need HDTV, why should I be forced to rent an unnecessary cablebox? No American should be forced to rent, when they can purchase the same item.

If you want to own an HDTV DVR go and buy a TiVo! You will own this and you will not need a cable box, well if your cable company is up to date. The TiVo will work without a cable box if you can use a cable card offered by most cable companies because of the HDTV programming available. All you would do is insert the cable card into the TiVo and then you can wn the cable box/TiVo DVR. If you have never owned a TiVo you are in for a surprise. These things are amazing. Today I was watching TV shows on my laptop with the power out, as we had tornado force winds going through upstate NY. The wind was downing trees and I am inside watching Lost on my laptop because of the way I have my TiVo set up.

If you are dead set against TiVo then you can check int the "Sling-Box". I am not sure exactly what that is about but my understanding is it is close to doing some things like the TiVo. I can not go without TiVo ever again. It is like when you are a  kid and learned about s*x for the first time, never go without it again! I hope this is what you are looking for, Good Luck!
